16/11/02   Nottingham Evening Post ‘NAIL that Incinerator’

Friends of the earth have thrown their support behind a campaign to close Nottingham’s Eastcroft Incinerator and boost recycling instead.

Nottingham Against Incineration and Landfill (NAIL) was launched on November 9.

NAIL wants the incinerator off London Road phased out and more attention paid to schemes such as kerbside collection of glass, paper and cans.

About 60% of the city’s waste is currently incinerated at Eastcroft

Kelly Maklowicz, of Nottingham Friends of the Earth, said “Its one of Friends of the Earth’s main issues. We don’t want the fumes fro the incinerator”

“We want the council to move quicker and provide kerbside collections of recyclable and compostable waste”

The campaign is also supported by Nottingham South MP Alan Simpson.
