06/04/06   Nottingham Evening Post 'Debate on Incinerator'

Heated debate is expected at a public meeting to discuss plans to expand Nottingham's incinerator.

Waste firm WRG wants to expand the Eastcroft site to take a further 100,000 tonnes of rubbish a year on

top of its current 150,000.

A planning application is expected to go before Nottingham City Council this month.

Environmental groups and residents, especially in nearby Sneinton, oppose the plans.

They fear increased pollution and say waste will need to be imported into Notts from elsewhere, to make

the expanded site viable. The meeting is at 7pm on Tuesday at the old school hall, next to Green's

Windmill, in Sneinton Dale.

It will feature a panel including representatives from Nottingham City Council, the Environment Agency and

the group Nottingham Against Incineration and Landfill.

The public will be able to ask questions of the panel.

Incinerator owner WRG claims there is enough waste in Notts to feed an expanded plant, without affecting

local efforts to improve recycling rates.
