NAIL ACTION ARCHIVE

21/11/05 NAIL Protestors Picket the Environment Agencies Offices

Over 30 NAIL campaigners protested outside the Environment Agencies offices on Sacrrington Road and on the road adjacent to their offices off Ladybay Bridge Nottingham. We greeted the employees of the EA as they arrived for work, we handed them flyers, waved banners and placards and delivered a letter to their office. We are demanding action to be taken over the highly polluting, emission breaching, cancer causing incinerator.

The Environment Agency, the regulators of the industry are failing in their duty to protect the residents of Nottingham from Eastcroft, Nottingham's cancer factory. We demand that the EA carries out its duty and issues an enforcement notice to ensure that Eastcroft fully complies with its IPC licence, all of the time and if it cannot, the EA takes the appropriate steps to close it down.

The EA invited us in for a meeting where we disused the the breaches, although there a little common ground, we agreed to disagree on many issues. The EA stated that they believe they have taken the appropriate action and that Eastcroft generally performs well.

We believe that, an incinerator which has had 27 known pollution breaches within the last four years cannot be considered as performing well.
