If it's as clean as they claim, ask yourself, why does it need a 200 ft chimney ?

Eastcroft Incinerator the 'Waste of Energy' Facility

Waste Recycling Group Ltd. (WRG) owners of Nottingham's Eastcroft incinerator near Trent Bridge Nottingham, submitted a planning application to expand their facility by building a third, very outdated and highly polluting incinerator. They plan to import other peoples waste, the vast majority of which could be recycled, from the East Midlands to burn in Nottingham City Centre to pollute OUR air, land and water with a cocktail of poisonous chemicals, substances, gases and dust particles, many of which are known to cause cancers.

FACT - PCB's, dioxins, Arsenic, Cadmium, Mercury etc cause cancers, neurological diseases, increased infant mortality & major heath issues

FACT - ALL of the above are released by incinerators, 24 hours a day 7 days a week for us all to breath and eat

Following over a year of committed NAIL supporters and the local community, the plans were rejected by the Development Control Committee. WRG however do not except this democratic system, or the 3200 signatures. WRG had applied to the Planning Inspector to take this to appeal, however they have since retracted their appeal ad plan to re submit a Planning Application within the next few weeks.

Please support our campaign to prevent the expansion of this unnecessary, highly polluting and poorly regulated pollution factory. Click Here to see how you can help.

The two current incinerators do not operate within the terms of their PPC Licence. The plant continually breaches its authorised emission levels, yet WRG avoids prosecution! There have been 31 pollution known breaches in the past four years alone.

In Mach 2005 WRG received little more than a 'telling off' for emitting 900% of their authorised level of dioxin for up to six months, dioxin being the most cancerous substance know to science. There have been three more emission breaches since then! In the past 4 years, Eastcroft received a third of all warning noticed issued by the Environment Agency for the 12 municipal incinerators in the UK. We believe it is therefore the most offending incinerator in the UK.

The proposed incinerator is not of modern design, it is based on the original two lines, designed in the 1960's and obsolete before being build in 1972. This design has now been approved by the Environment Agency who could have insisted on a modern design, however yet again they have sided with big business. WRG have again put their profits before the health of Nottingham residents.

Incinerators basically turn waste profit for the private companies and toxic land-fill and toxic air-fill pollution for the public who live near to them. There is an answerer, over 80 % of household waste can be recycled and composted, producing significantly less pollution, creating more jobs and conserving the earths dwindling resources. Man is still cutting down tropical rainforests to manufacture wood, paper and even toilet roll, yet here in Nottingham we choose to burn our waste, pollute the air and fuel the demand for more de-forestation to replace the paper. Five percent of the worlds oil reserves are used to make plastic, we are running out of oil but chose to burn plastic rather than recycle to conserve these dwindling stock.

We want our City Council to move Nottingham into the 21st Century and leave the dirty, polluting habits of the last Century where they belong, in the past. We want a waste reduction and sustainable waste management policy, one that puts the health of the people of Nottingham, before the profit of Waste Recycling Group.

We must end the madness of incineration and the continued pollution of our most precious resource, air the substance of life.

We have a right to breathe clean air, free of dust, toxic heavy metals, poisonous chemicals and substances that we know cause cancer, heart disease, leukaemia and respiratable problems.

Incinerators do not destroy waste, it is one of the fundamental principles of science that matter cannot be destroyed, it can only ever be transformed. Incinerators basically turn rubbish into ash, particulate matter and poisonous fumes. These poisons are spewed into the atmosphere, which we breathe. Eventually they fall to earth where we consume these poisons through our food.

Incinerators do not destroy waste, our rubbish still exists we just see less of it. We just end up inhaling and eat it instead.
